Cynthia Madeline (Soter) Gouvis, Age 88, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2022 after a long and courageous fight with dementia. Beloved wife of the late Nicholas A. Gouvis, Cynthia is survived by her loving children, Iona Brazas, and Angelo (Kirsten) Gouvis. Middle sister to Themis (Emanuel) Kourakis and Daphne Soter. Loving grandmother to Madeline and Alexa Brazas as well as Peter and Christopher Gouvis.
Cynthia was born on the south side of Chicago in 1934 to Dr. Spiro Soter and Ioanna (Kosmetos) Soter. After graduating from University of Illinois, Champaign, Cynthia taught school in Illinois, Indiana and finally settling in California. After marrying Nick in 1960, her focus shifted to raising a family and settling in Orange County. She was a founding member of the St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church in Irvine, California, and served two terms as the first Philoptochos (Women’s Club) President. Her time was also filled with volunteering for the Mental Health Association and meeting with friends for luncheons or the parties she loved to throw. She had a great passion for art, architecture, classical music and travelled extensively throughout her life.
In Lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to Saint Paul's Orthodox Church in memory of Cynthia. Thank you for all of the Love and Support during this most difficult time.
