

Beloved brother, uncle and friend Fred Von der Ahe passed away peacefully in his home early Sunday morning attended by family. The second of seven children of Theodore and Dorothy Von der Ahe, Fred grew up in Los Angeles, attended Loyola High School, the University of Santa Clara for two years before graduating from Loyola Marymount University. Fred served in the U. S. Navy for four years as a lieutenant aboard a mine sweeper and spent much of his early career with Von's Grocery Company. Fred served for many decades on the board of the charitable Von Der Ahe Foundation.
In 1977, Fred moved to Newport Beach where he lived for the remainder of his life. He began a second career in shopping center development and became a member of the Newport Harbor Yacht club. His boat, he named The Roamer, and he became known as The Captain. Fred remained single his entire life. Though never having children, he became very close with his many nieces and nephews, taking many on trips to Europe and Asia. Fred will forever be loved and fondly remembered by them.
Fred is survived by two of his brothers, Vincent (Bo) and Theodore (Ted).
A celebration of Fred's wonderful life will be held Wednesday, March 26, 2025 at 11:30 am at the Balboa Bay Resort, 1221 West Coast Hw, Newport Beach.
