

Jim, as he was known, was born George James Thom, Jr., on January 22, 1923, in Los Angeles, California. He was the only child of Florence Winters Thom and George Thom. After graduating high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy, and served from 1942 - 1946 as a Motor Machinist's Mate, First Class. He was awarded a Victory Medal, World War II, as well as a Good Conduct Medal. In 1951, Jim joined the International Union of Operating Engineers, and worked as a Heavy Equipment Mechanic. He retired from U.S. Paving in 1976 and moved to Newport Beach, California.
Jim was married twice. He had one son, Larry Thom, from his first marriage. Jim found and married the love of his life, Ruth, in 1970. Ruth had three children from her first marriage, whom Jim accepted, treated, and considered his own. His son, Larry, passed away in 1972. In 2007, his beloved Ruth passed away, and Jim moved to Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, with his youngest daughter and son-in-law. They moved to Houston, Texas, in 2010, and to Cleveland, Ohio, in 2013. Jim was loved and respected by many, and is survived by his children, Donald Geisler, Debra Larsen, and Diane DeLisio; 5 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2013, at 10:00am in the Chapel at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar, California.
