George Kadonada was born on May 24, 1942, and passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026. While George rarely spoke of his childhood, his story is about overcoming adversity and achieving a life that many only dream of. He was born at the Pomona Assembly Center in Los Angeles and was interned at Manzanar. He faced many challenges growing up in East Los Angeles post World War II.
After attending Loyola High School, he joined the Army and was assigned to the 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles. After the Army, George attended Loyola University and Southwestern Law School. While going to law school and working at Pacific Mutual he discovered his calling in insurance. Yes, insurance! He had many interesting stories about his career, especially as a property and casualty reinsurer. George’s out of the box solutions resulted in his rapid rise into senior leadership. At 28 years old, George became the president of Coast Saving’s insurance division. Over the years, he crafted his insurance knowledge at various companies such as Marsh McLennan, INA, Continental and RFC Intermediaries. He founded US Facilities 1980, which helped pioneer the Medical Stop Loss industry. George took US Facilities public (via IPO) in 1986. US Facilities would later become the platform for one of the largest Stop Loss carriers in the industry. He also helped to fund the Self-Insurance Institute of America (SIIA) to get it started. After US Facilities, George was too restless to retire, so in 1998, in partnership with AIG, he started Medical Excess. During that time, he engaged with the Bush and Clinton administrations. He tried retiring for the second time but decided in 2007 to fund and become the majority partner for USBenefits Insurance Services. Despite his success, he is proudest of his family.
George is preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Kadonada; son, Greg Kadonada; and sister, Judith Greco. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Dore; grandsons, James Dore and Zachary Kadonada; son in law, Joseph Dore; niece, Tamiko Greco; and Deborah's and Greg's mother, Sandra Kadonada.
George’s memorial service will be on February 22, 2026 at Pacific View Mortuary and Memorial Park in Corona Del Mar, California. The family invites you to submit photographs and your favorite stories of George in advance of his memorial service, which can be emailed to Joe Dore at [email protected].
