I was doing an internet search for an old friend and I am so sad that I found his obituary, I was hoping I instead could say hello... my name is Darren, I am from Montreal and I met Hal in the 1980s when he came to help start up a radio station with a bunch of kids that were a little less fortunate, he was so kind and caring and I guess I just wanted to get in touch with him to say thank you. I seeazing dad! I am so saddened to hear of the passing of Hal.  I only new him for a few years but got to know him fairly well over those years as his AV installer.  He was passionate, honest, and extremely intelligent.  I know his reach @ NEC and in the community was far greater than I knew him for but even what I knew was an incredible man that certainly left his mark on this earth.  Hal, I enjoyed our talks about the Angels and I hope we brought some joy to you allowing you to watch 3 games at once.  Thank you for your friendship and business.  You will be missed.

Hal it was just a pleasure having you in my life.  I don't think you ever knew how much we all loved you, I hope you did. You will be missed so much.  Thank you for your friendship, your guidance and your love.  Bless your family too, they are wonderful.

What a blessing Hal has been to all of us not only as a co-worker at NEC, but as a friend.  Many thanks as he lead us with a new and clear vision.  We will do our best to follow that vision so that we honor him everyday.  Rest well and peacefully Hal.  You will never know how much you are loved by us all.

Hal - I stood out on the baseball field on Friday night and felt your loving presence among all that stood there in your honor, so many. The stories they shared of your humor and goodness. Alexa stood there in tears asking why do good people need to go? We said it is because they needed to leave so they could go on doing the loving work they do and that sometimes the body needs to be left behind. Your physical presence will be missed but your spirit lives on in each of us, keep up the good work.

Hey coach its jake i wrote alittle bit on your facebook wall but i wanted to add something here, so here it goes. Coach i remember he first time i met you and i would of never thought that we would of bonded the way we did. Ever since day 1 you quickly taught me the simple things in life like how to field a ground ball and how to take my lead of 2nd base. It was the simple things you did that made you who you were, like buying me batting gloves on my birthday and taking me out to dinner with ben when i was bored, or always cracking a joke about how my hair was always perfect everytime you saw me. Its the small things like that wich make me know that you were someone special. Iv had probably over 15 coaches sicne i started playing baseball and you have and always be the best coach iv ever had. I looked at our red soxs jerseys from juniors and it reminded me of the time when we made it to the championchip game vs the yankees and who ever won got a trophy with their names on it put in chicks sporting goods. we ended up tieing witch i dont know how that happends in baseball but i just remember you saying that they were scared to play us witch is probably true since we were stacked! coach i never got to say goodbye the way i wanted to and i think about it everyday and i dont really know how to really say goodbye to someone that i cared about so much but i know your looking down on ben, and sarah, and me and everyone lvies youv touched and i know youll be the voice talking to me everyday on the field telling me to open my stants alittle more or adjust my arm angle when i throw. r.i.p. coach love you.

I was in shock to hear of your dad's passing.  I did not know he was sick. He did not share that with me a year ago when we exchanged a brief e-mail.  I have to tell you that the world felt empty knowing it had lost such a good person.  There are lots of ordinary people that come and go in life.  Your dad was rare and extraordinary.  I will never forget the many times he went out of his way to drive my son to or from practice and take him to dinner to be part of a family that he had lost.    I will never forget when the fires loomed over Irvine that he was the only person we knew who emailed his friends to say he was there for anyone who might need help if it came down to evacuations.  I am praying for you both during this very difficult time.  If there is ever anything you should need, please let us know.
