Martin Joseph Pregenzer, 74, passed away peacefully in Fullerton, California on October 3, 2017. Martin was born on February 19, 1943, in Chicago. He was the son of Marie Christine and Joseph Pregenzer. He attended St. Pascal School on the Northwest side and St. Patrick High School, the oldest Catholic school in Chicago. Martin was a lifeguard at Portage Park and Oak Street Beach. After earning a business degree at Lewis University, where he was later inducted into the Sports Hall of Fame for track and field and wrestling, he worked as an accountant at Rauland Corporation and rose to Controller of Zenith Radio Corporation. He obtained his MBA from the Kellogg School at Northwestern University.
Martin wed Doris Richart on October 26, 1968, at St. Louise de Marillac Church in La Grange Park. After settling in Chicago, and later Elmhurst, the couple raised two children, Lynne and Mark. Work brought Martin to California, where he longed to relocate for many years, and the family moved to Brea. Martin continued to enjoy his passion for cars and loved to give tours of Southern California highlights to visitors. He cherished time with family, watching sports and being on the water, particularly in Balboa Bay. Our good memories of his love, thoughtfulness, and humor will stay with us until we meet him again.
Martin is survived by his wife Doris, daughter Lynne Hook and son Mark, grandchildren Liam and Emily, and nephew Nathan Toranzo. A memorial service will be held at Pacific View Memorial Park in Corona del Mar on Monday, October 9th at 10:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations are encouraged to Caterina's Club, feeding thousands of underprivileged children in Orange County each week, located at 341 E. Center St., Anaheim, California 92805, or www.caterinasclub.org.
