Robert “Bob” Bixler, affectionately known as “Big Bob,” was born on July 9, 1944, in Los Angeles, California. A long-time resident of Fountain Valley, he passed surrounded by love after a life rich in laughter, friendship, devotion to family, and stories told at full volume.
Bob and his beloved wife, Deloris, recently celebrated 59 wonderful years of marriage—a true partnership built on love, commitment, and plenty of laughs. He was a devoted father to John (Susan), Jodi (Pierre), and Steve, and a very proud grandfather to Jakob, Liam, Jenna, and Nolan. The grandkids especially loved visiting him—often leaving with a smile, a laugh, and a little cash slipped into their hands “just because.” Bob also adored his many nieces and nephews, all of whom knew exactly how big his heart—and his personality—were.
Big Bob always embraced the joys of life—enjoying trips to Las Vegas and Laughlin, horse racing, craps, poker, and fishing. His favorite "jackpot", though, was cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events—often louder than anyone else in the stands, and always with unmatched enthusiasm. Bob also relished giving people a hard time—always in good fun—and had a charismatic, generous spirit that naturally lifted the mood of everyone around him. Bob retired from Southern California Edison after many years of dedicated service.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Mark and Cecilia, and his siblings Mark, John, Ruth, and Harvey.
A giant of a man in both size and spirit, Big Bob was known for his loud personality, quick wit, and legendary sense of humor. He never met a stranger, never missed a chance to tell a joke, and never left a room quietly. Bob will be remembered for the joy he brought into the lives of others and for the love he shared so freely. His generosity, warmth, and ability to make people laugh and feel good will never be forgotten. His presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered. Although he may no longer fill the room with his booming voice, Bob’s love and laughter will echo on in the hearts of all who knew him.
