Loved pickleball with Wilma!!!! She was absolutely the most incredibly sweet kind person to accommodate us and make us delicious lunches. She was so caring and giving. I miss getting together with her and her friends. I remember speaking with her husband about flying and think he had a plane at Fullerton.. I have started flying again out of Long Beach and I’m looking to connect with other pilots. From Emily Lane

I had a dream about her last night. I was looking for her in a classroom. When I found her, I cried so much because I missed her and wanted to catch up. When I woke up, I googled her and found her obituary.  I had no idea she had passed. Going to 4 elementary schools, 3 high schools, but 1 middle school, she was my PE teacher for all 3 years in Franklin Middle School. You can imagine, she was my only constant teacher I've ever had. 94-96. She was everything, every one here had said about her. Full of energy, sympathetic, kind, understanding, a caring person. She was the nicest PE teacher out of the 5, our school had. I think about her all the time. It's been 25 years since I've seen her. I've gotten this year book photo from a friend this past weekend, without knowing. Rest in peace Ms. Ferguson.

I met Wilma in the fall of 1962 at Bridgewater College when she arrived at my room to welcome me to the campus. Wilma was a member of the Welcoming Committee whose mission was to acquaint new students to campus life and assist in the orientation process. Wilma's lively personality and winning smile definitely made this transition a pleasant one. However, I really got to know Wilma by playing interscholastic sports. She was a boundless bundle of energy, a worthy competitor, and a respected teammate--who never accepted mediocrity. We became lifelong friends and stayed in touch through the years. All who knew Wilma were touched by her devotion to her family and friends...her zest for life...and her generous spirit. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to her loving husband Jim, their daughters Kelly and Julie...and Kona too. I hope recalling the many fond memories of times shared with Wilma will bring some comfort. 


I met Dr. Wilma Ferguson at Hamilton Middle School, it did not take me much time to discover what a wonderful person she was. I always enjoyed having conversations with her over the years.  We would have inspirational conversations about life. She always provided me with great advice.  Dr. Wilma Ferguson was a beautiful person and provided me an example of how to live.  She was usually busy and excited about an event she was helping plan, or had just completed.  Dr.  Ferguson loved people, and wanted the best for others.  I am blessed to have know her and to call her friend.  

Wilma was one of the most special women I have ever called friend. She was a caring inspiration to all she touched.  I will miss her terribly.  She chuckled when I called her "Madame President"  - Beta Iota Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma (educators society).  May she rest in peace.

Wilma was such a beautiful person and Wilma’s Baltimore buddies were fortunate to have shared almost 60 years of genuine-lifelong friendship. Here is one story about how Wilma and Jim met. 
In 1965,  Wilma joined Whitney and Rumbley as members of the Baltimore Field Hockey Association. One weekend in the fall, the Baltimore Field Hockey Team traveled to Richmond for a weekend tournament. Tired from the trip, Wilma decided to stay in the room and rest, while Rumbley and Whitney went to look for ice. At the ice machine, we met three gentlemen, one of whom was Jim Ferguson, who had just graduated from the US Coast Guard Academy. After some pleasant conversation,  we invited the young men back to our room to meet Wilma. Surprisingly, the next day, all three men showed up at the hockey field in their dress whites, cheering us on. The following weekend Jim and his buddies asked if they could come to Baltimore to visit.  That weekend led to many other visits that would lead to a formal proposal of marriage. 
When the world was hit with the pandemic, our group of friends learned to Zoom. Each week for the next year and a half we met faithfully on Tuesday night at 7 PM for almost two hours of sharing stories. It was a wonderful way to stay connected throughout Covid19. Wilma kept us updated on what was happening in California and Zooming made us all free like we were right there together. We even saw a naked Jim crawl through the room not knowing he would be on the screen. Wilma inspired all of us to live life to the fullest and to be a kinder and more loving person. Her wit and humor were funny and charming.  
Our Circle of Baltimore Friends wrote a complied Eulogy that has been forwarded to Jim, Kelley, Julie, and the family.  We will miss our dear friend.   


I first met Wilma when I was a student at Franklin.  She was my seventh grade PE teacher and my eighth grade dance teacher.  I always remember her having tons of energy!  I believe the year was 1988, Wilma choreographed a routine to the song Wipe Out for our dance class to perform.  I still remember parts of the routine today.

I was fortunate enough to work with Wilma when I return to Franklin as a teacher.  Wilma was no longer teaching PE, instead she was working with a program called Triangle of Caring.  We all know how loving Wilma is so I imagine this was a perfect position for her.  I have enjoyed seeing Wilma on her adventures and will miss her smile!  

Gary's memories with Jim go back to Junior High School, where they were best friends. Adding wonderful Wilma to that mix many years later was such a joy for all of us!
Wilma was such a perfect mate for Jim! Adventuresome, gentle, energetic, up for anything, it seemed.
We loved following their many adventures on Facebook, and we cheered when they did something fantastic... like the Antarctic trip!
She loved decorating for celebrations and was at the center of everything they did as a family.
We shared stories about kids and grandkids, we swapped stories and jokes. We so enjoyed the lifelong friendship the four of us shared!
Our deep love goes out to Jim, the girls and their families, and sweet Kona; and we pray so fervently for peace to all their hearts in God's due time.

Meeting Wilma at Bridgewater in 1963 will forever be a heartwarming memory.  No one could have been a better teammate or mentor for this freshman. 
Beyond her superb athletic ability (she ran as fast as that roadrunner) she exemplified the positive. Always a calm presence while possessing this boundless energy. Never knew anyone more alive.
Over the years, mostly from a distance, it was joyful to see her and the family move through life …  the girls, their Dogs, and this special man she married.  She met this handsome guy at of all places a field hockey tournament in Richmond Virginia. 
Jim, Kelly, Julie and Kona my heart aches for each of you. There is  comfort in knowing of the LOVE in your family and how that will sustain you in this most difficult time. Peace

I had the pleasure of working with Wilma on her book Dunkard Hollow. Even though we were so far apart, she was so easy and fun to work with. We continued to stay in touch after the publishing and got to know each other more via Facebook. We were due to meet 5 days as the borders closed due to Covid in March 2020. Sending much healing and love to her husband and family. This is my favourite photo she sent me when she held her book in hand for the first time. I am so glad she leaves a legacy with it.

Well dear friend, we ALL sorely missed you at our weekly Zoom  meeting this week.  I missed teasing with you and hearing the latest of you, Jim and the family. I have to say, you truly touched my soul,  and you had to be one of the kindest, sweetest souls I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.  I’m so glad you were in my life, even though our time was cut short. I cherished the time we did have together my dear friend.  At the very least, you taught me to live my life to the fullest. I aspire to be like you.

Wilma Livingston Fergonson 

Some many memories of Wilma growing up are on the farm. 
I always love when my cousins would come to visit especially the summer times we go fishing at the pond, drive through the apples orchard looking for deer at night, drive to the top looking for wildlife, watching the sunset together, picking apples, lots of picnics,going to family reunions every summer and singing climb every mountain from the top of the farm. 

Most importantly getting her and Jim approval about  Brad becoming my future husband.
They met him for the first time in 2014 they loved him so much and really appreciate that time we spend with them for a short weekend visit. 
In July 2015 they came out to Colorado for our wedding that meant the world to me they all there including most of my cousins  and their families. 
Wilma had a blast at our wedding and meeting new family members too.
Wilma so out going, lives life to the fullest, up for any new adventures, willing to try new things, always made time for her husband Jim, their dog Kona, family snd friends.
What a incredible lady inside and outside.
She will be deeply missed by all of us.
Love you so already wish you were here. You left this world to early and unexpected too.

We were stationed in Puerto Rico with the Ferguson’s in the late 90’s.   They were such a fun and loving family. Wilma always had the biggest and most gentle smile for everyone.  Her energy level knew no bounds.  I feel very blessed to have known Wilma.  I know she will be sorely missed by many, especially her family.   Sue Luppert
