He was born and raised in Corpus Christi. He graduated from Foy H. Moody High School in 1978 where he played football. He loved and supported Coach Hector Salinas and the Moody Magic Baseball Team. He worked as a Police Officer for the CCPD, was the owner of Team Sports Cards and retired from HEB where he was a long-time grocery manager.
He loved hunting, enjoyed fishing and barbecuing his famous Brisket. He appreciated anything having to do with sports. He was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. If you spoke sports with him, you had to be prepared to sit with him for several hours
He is preceded in death by his parents, Homero and Crisanta Leal Ybañez and his brother Homero Ybañez, Jr.
Abel left behind his loving wife of 40 years Minerva "Minnie" Morin Ybañez; three amazing sons, Abel Ybañez, Jr., Roberto Daniel Ybañez and Isaiah Luis Ybañez; as well as two beautiful daughters, Clarissa Yvette Ybañez and Christina Isabella Ybañez.
He left behind to cherish his memories his brother, Homero; daughters, Anna Lisa Ybañez Lopez (Rudy), Lily and Luke, his niece Sonia Ybañez, Ethan and twins Saige and Hazel and Jenny Ybañez Quintanilla (Julio) Aiden and Ava. And his loving Sisters, Maria Ybañez Sepeda (Rudy) Nicholas Homero, and Barbara Ybañez Gonzalez (John) Leah Bethany.
