

Antonia “Toñita” Yañez, 83, passed away after a long illness on Thursday, November 7, 2013. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mariano “Chanito” Yañez, her brother Alejandro Cantú, 3 sons, Juan “Juanito” Villalon, Alfredo “Alfredito” Villalon, Ricardo “Ricky” Yañez, and 1 great-granddaughter, Andrea Isabel Canales.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Sylvia (Raul) Cruz of Corpus Christi, Silia “Silly” Yañez of Corpus Christi, and Dianna Gonzalez of Austin, TX; 1 sister, Guadalupe “Lupe” Longoria of San Benito, TX; 8 grandchildren, David Albert (Cecilia) Canales of San Antonio, TX, Fortino Alfredo “Chonie” Canales of Austin, TX, Rene Abel “Role” Canales Cruz of Houston, TX, Erica Alyssa Cruz of Corpus Christi, Ricardo Roel “Ricky” (Sandra) Yañez of Austin, TX, Carol Elfego of Temple, TX, Priscilla Solis of Houston, TX, and Ricardo Andres “Ricky” Yañez of Dallas, TX; and 8 great-grandchildren, Samuel Antonio Canales, Elias David Canales, Benjamin Rafael Canales, Mikaela Isabella Yañez, Mark Gonzalez, Julia Gonzalez, Carlos Terrazas, and Hugo Terrazas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and the many “grandchildren” and “great-grandchildren” from the Los Encinos neighborhood to whom she opened her heart and her home. The family wishes to thank New Century Hospice and Odyssey Hospice for their care during her last days, and nurse Karen Gutierrez and social worker Bertha Young for their loving care, advice and assistance. Special thanks go out to “Moe” from the corner store, Lone Star Market #2, for his generosity and friendship.
Pallbearers are David A. Canales, Alfredo Canales, Rene Cruz, Ricardo Yañez, Joaquin “Jack” Martinez, and Porfirio “Sonny” Moreno. Honorary Pallbearers are Samuel Canales, Elias Canales, Benjamin Canales, Cele Vivanco, Arturo “Tudy” Castillo, Sr., Charlie Limon, Albert Coronado, and Shaun Palacios.
A viewing will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2013, at Funeraria del Angel, 549 Cheyenne St. from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. A church mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, November 11, 2013, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2509 Nogales St., with a procession to follow immediately to the burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Rd.
