Bertha Villarreal Vela

Bertha Villarreal Vela was called to her heavenly home on February 21, 2010 at the age of 84. She was born in Guerrero, Mexico and came to the United States as a young woman, married, and had two children. She was a devoted mother, wife, and homemaker. Mrs. Vela was a devout Catholic and made Corpus Christi her home for fifty-six years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jose Roman Vela, and her two sisters, Eugenia Villarreal and Guadalupe Flores, who also made Corpus Christi their home.

She is survived by her brother, Jorge Villarreal, of Corpus Christi, two daughters, Alicia Locke and Nancy Vela, both of Austin, Texas, two grandchildren, Angela Gomez-Pena of Buda, Texas and Andrew Locke of Houston, Texas and two great grandchildren, Eliana and Mathew.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 9:00 pm on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Funearia del Angel-Memorial Holly with a rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm that evening. A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Monday, February 28, 2011 at Christ the King Catholic Church. Following the mass her body will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
