Carol Jean Ozenberger(Kapustka) was 86 at the time of her death due to natural causes. Though a longtime resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, Carol was born in a farm house in central Nebraska near the village of Elyria in Valley County on January 9, 1934 to Anton and Eva Kapustka(Sobon), both deceased. Carol was the first born of six. Surviving brothers are: Gerald Kapustka, OMI, Guatemala, and Larry Kapustka(Susan Kristoferson), Turner Valley, Alberta, Canada. Deceased brother and sisters are: Ernie Kapustka, Elinor Zikmund, and Elizabeth(Liz) Kapustka.
Carol sat on the teacher’s lap in a one room country school to start her formal learning. Upon graduation from Ord High School, Nebraska in 1951, she decided to join the Sisters of Charity in Leavenworth, Kansas. During this period of her life, many knew her as Sister Anne Cordis. After many years of teaching and summer school, she received a degree in teaching from St. Mary College, Leavenworth, Kansas. After leaving the convent in 1969, she accepted a teaching job at the school in Holbrook, Arizona which was willing to hire her without a preliminary interview trip. During her decades of teaching, Carol was able to positively impact the multitudes that passed through her classrooms.
While teaching there, Carol met the love of her life, Nelson Ozenberger, an engineer. Nelson was a new hire at the Cholla Steam Electric Station of Arizona Public Service. Alas, they were united in marriage on December 23, 1969 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Holbrook. Nelson and Carol spent the next fifty years making a wonderful life for their family. Outside of the classroom, Carol was an extremely skilled cook, whipping up many creative dishes and treats. She also could sew and embroider just about anything. In retirement, a gardening hobby bloomed into a fully xeriscaped yard.
Carol was the proud mother of two sons: Matthew Nelson Ozenberger and Byron John Ozenberger. Grandmother of three grandchildren: Evan Ozenberger, Lillian(Lily) Ozenberger, and Emerson Ozenberger of Katy, Texas. Carol has three nephews and six nieces.
A private mass in Carol’s honor will be celebrated at Most Precious Blood Church. After cremation Carol will be inurned and placed in a crypt in a mausoleum at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
