He was born in Buffalo, New York on March 5, 1928 to Sandy Wellington Gibson and Geneva Lucy Hill. Donald graduated from Burgard High School in Buffalo in the class of 1942. After high school graduation, he studied automotive mechanics before being drafted into the army in 1950, where he was stationed in Germany and served three years.
Upon returning home from the service, he moved with his parents to Los Angeles, California in 1953. Donald had an interest in electrical work, so he got a job with Western Electric which later became part of AT&T. He was a practitioner of metaphysical study and methods and was a student of the teacher, Edwin John Dingle. It was Mr. Dingle who brought my parents together at a spiritual retreat in 1956.
Three months after their courtship began, Donald married Rafaela Gonzalez in the valley of Texas and honeymooned in Monterrey, Mexico. Upon returning to Los Angeles, they started their home life and ended up having three children, David, Sharon, and Donald. The Gibson family lived in Culver City, Torrance, and Garden Grove. And in 1966, the family moved to Corpus Christi, Tx.
In Texas, Donald continued his work as a technician for AT&T finishing out a 40 year career in the 1990s. His retirement years were quiet. He liked working around the house, fixing his cars when needing repairs or maintenance, accompanying his wife to the store or church, and going on trips to see relatives. His marriage to Rafaela lasted 67 years, upon the passing of his wife in 2023.
Donald will be cremated and his urn will be placed next to his beloved wife in a niche at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi.
