Eleonora Sosa Chavarria, 86, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Born in Laredo, Texas to Eluterio Sosa and Petra Garcia on February 21, 1925, Eleonora was the youngest of ten children. She learned the value of hard work, independence, and perseverance at an early age working in farm fields. She loved to learn and taught herself to read and write. She also loved to sew, quilt, and make ceramics. On April 1, 1944, she married the love of her life, Arturo Chavarria, whom she met at the age of seven. Together, they instilled in their seven children the value of an education and faith in God. Eleonora lovingly devoted her life to her husband, children, and Catholic faith. Her humble beginnings made her dreams of a better life for her children a reality, as she and her husband encouraged them to make a better life for themselves and find their God-given mission in life. Their parents’ guidance produced two teachers, two Marines, a nurse, a computer specialist, and a corporate director, who in turn have, by their parents’ example, taught the next generation that love of God and family, education, and work is indeed the better way.
Eleonora leaves to her children a drive to learn, the joy of a life well lived, and the happy memories of a mother’s love. Her children are the joy she lived, the garden she tended, and the legacy she leaves behind.
Predeceased by her parents, her five brothers, four sisters, and her husband of 63 years, Eleonora is survived by her children, Amelia (Raul) Hernandez, Antonieta Carrillo, Armando (Veneranda) Chavarria, Armandina (Jerry) Castongue, and Arturo (Linda) Chavarria, Jr., Adelmira (Michael) Pratt, and Alfredo (Tammy) Chavarria, together with fourteen grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Services include public visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday, December 18, 2011 at Funeraria Del Angel-Memorial Holly chapel on Holly Road and a rosary at 7:00 p.m. that evening. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Our Lady of Pilar Catholic Church, interment will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Park.
