

Enrique Gutierrez Franco, age 89, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 24, 2023, after a brief illness. He was born in Mathis, Texas on September 4, 1933 to Wenceslao Cosme Franco and Delfina Gutierrez.
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters, and his loving wife Maria Franco.
Enrique, known as Henry to all, is survived by his five beloved children: Nelda Olivo, Nora Franco, Henry (Sandra) Franco, Javier (Melesha) Franco, Sandra Martinez;
9 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and many lifelong friends. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather. Henry was loved by many and will be dearly missed.
Henry graduated from Mathis High School in 1954. He proudly served in the U.S. Army, with a duty station in Germany and received an Honorable discharge. During his career, he worked at the City of Mathis as City Secretary and later as Director of the Housing Authority. He then worked in auto sales for over 30 years at dealerships throughout the Coastal Bend. He was also a member of the American Legion in Mathis, where he always supported his fellow veterans.
In recent years, he enjoyed starting his mornings at Whataburger to read the newspaper and have his free senior coffee. He was a lifelong sports fan of boxing, football, baseball and always cheered for his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros. His favorite pastimes included fishing, playing pool, barbeques and gatherings with family.
