

Helen was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a faithful and devout Catholic having taught CCD at Holy Family and St. Pius; served as a Eucharistic minister, was a volunteer with Prison ministry and a Hospice volunteer at Christus Spohn. She retired from CCISD after 31 years of service. Helen worked at Allen Elementary School, Martin Middle School, Wynn Seale Middle School, Lexington Elementary School, and Travis Elementary School.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruno Diaz, Sr.; infant son, Mario Alberto Diaz; mother, Maria Pena; sister, Ramona Puente; brother, Julian Pena and nephew, Mario Pena.
Helen leaves behind to cherish her memories her 6 children, Maria Imelda (Severo) Hernandez, Bruno Diaz, Jr., Cynthia Yolanda (Roger) Riojas, Margaret D. (Joey) Mitchell, Diana (David) Gonzalez, Anna Lillia (Robert) Rodriguez; 4 sisters, Margarita Carmona, Belia Washburn, Delia Martinez, Viviana Marquez; brother, Jesus Pena; 16 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in- law, Celsa Diaz, Berta Avila: brothers-in- law, Catarino Diaz, Tomas Diaz and Pedro Garcia; numerous nieces and nephews; and her husband, Tomas Garza.
Family will be receiving friends on Friday, October 3, 2014 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with rosary to be recited at 7:00 pm the same evening at Memory Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest next to her loving husband Bruno.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
