

He was born on October 5, 1942 in Alice, Texas to the late Jesus Pena, Sr. and Benita Trejo. He was
a great man and above all a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. He will be dearly missed by all his
loved ones and all who knew him. He was an avid golfer and was known as an extraordinary saxophonist. He
dedicated his spare time playing his sax and serving the Lord.
Jesse graduated from Alice High School in 1961. He attended Del Mar College and Texas A & I University-Kingsville
where he obtained his BA in Music in 1970. Jesse also attended Corpus Christi State University (CCSU) and obtained his
Masters in Music in 1979. He served in the United States Army from 1966-1968.
Jesse started his career as a band director in Crystal City, Texas. He then went on to teach music in Del Rio, Texas.
Jesse and his family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1976 where he was the band director at Martin Middle School. He then
went on to Ray High School and Hamlin Junior High. He retired in 1998 but decided to teach part time at John Paul High School
and Incarnate Word Academy. The love, passion and dedication Jesse had for music was something his students will never forget.
He was also known for his infectious smile and his love for his family and the Lord. He looked forward to Sunday dinners with his
family. He is preceded in death by his parents and his loving daughter Christine Annette Rivera "Kiki". Jesse is survived by his wife of
49 years Eliza G. Pena "Ellie", his brother Baltazar (Dalia) Pena, and his two children Jesse Duane (Irasema) Pena and Lisa Michelle
Pena (Robert Smith). He is also survived by his grandchildren: Adrian Rivera, Jr., Jesse Duane Pena, Jr., Christine Annette Fonseca,
Benjamin Joshua Pena, Anna Ruiz, Lauren Lind and numerous sister in laws, nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his
humor, his solos playing in the jazz festival and his time with the Lee Martinez Band. The family will be receiving family and friends at
Funeraria del Angel-Memorial Holly Road on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 5pm-9pm with a holy rosary to be recited at 7pm that same
evening. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church on Tuesday, July 28, 2015 at 10am with entombment
to follow at Memory Gardens.Pallbearers will be Ramiro Chavez, David Getz, Carlos Garcia, Hector Escamilla, Abel Perez and Manuel
Garcia.Honorary Pallbearers will be Joe Saenz, Ismael Pena, Fidencio Lerma and all the fellow band directors who knew and worked with him.
