

Joseph proudly enlisted in United States Army in 1956. He fulfilled his ambition by earning his Airborne Wings after completing basic training and infantryman school. His numerous tours and assignments included a deployment with the 82nd Airborne division to the Dominican Republic and two tours in Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. He retired as a first sergeant. He was highly decorated earning 2 bronze stars, combat and infantryman badge and numerous other awards.
He retired in 1994 from the Corpus Christi Army Depot as an aircraft mechanic. In addition to enjoying his time with family and friends he loved to fish, BBQ, his Ford King Ranch trucks, and enjoying his favorite team the Dallas Cowboys. Airborne!
Joseph is survived by his wife, Bertha and her children, Pedro Cardenas, Gerardo Cardenas and Bertha Cardenas; 9 grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Mike Bazan; sister, Lucy Soto; six children, Patricia Gobble, John Perez, Joe Bazan, Elsa Cantu, Nora Bazan and Ronald Bazan; 17 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and many loving family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 17, 2013 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m. that same evening.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Funeral Home with interment to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery.
