

Rev. Lewis Williams, Jr., 90, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. He was born in Marshall, Texas, to Lewis and Gertrude Williams on April 23, 1927. Lewis was raised in church and accepted Christ at an early age at Good Hope Baptist Church, Marshall, Texas. He graduated from H.B. Pemperton High School and later completed correspondence courses from the Chicago Institute of Technology and Business Management.
Lewis met and married the love of his life, Alice K. Williams, on February 18, 1950. In 1951, after having their first child, Wynette Y. Johnson, they relocated to Corpus Christi, Texas, where they began building their life together. He began working at Reynold’s Metal Company in 1952 and continued working there until he retired in May of 1981. After retirement, Lewis owned an auto mechanic shop, was an estate manager for the Dudley Jones Estate, and was a business manager at Tradewind’s Mini Storage.
Following his father’s footsteps, Lewis made sure that his family attended and was involved in church. From 1957 – 1960, he served as an usher under Rev. O.L. Terrell at Mt. Olive Baptist Church. In 1960, he served as a trustee board member, helped organize a departmentalized Sunday School, and served as secretary of finance under the leadership of Rev. R.A. Hicks at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In 1970, he was ordained as a deacon under the leaderships of Rev. J.C. Gage. From 1971 – 1988, he served as a deacon and trustee board member under the leadership of Rev. A. Bland at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. From 1988 – 1995, he served as a deacon and trustee under the leadership of Rev. H. Williams at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. In 1995, he served as a deacon under the leadership of Rev. W. Johnson at St. John Baptist Church. In 1997, he served as a deacon, accepted his calling to the ministry, received his license to preach and became an associate minister under the leadership of Rev. Mark D. Stewart at Rising Star Baptist Church. He was currently an associate minister at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Claude C. Axel.
Rev. Lewis Williams, Jr. was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Gertrude Williams; one brother, Darvin Williams; one sister, Nancy C. Beckham; two daughters: Darvina H. Davis and Dr. Wynette Y. Johnson. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Mrs. Alice K. Williams, and one daughter, Dr. Alys K. (William F. Thomas, Sr.) Williams, both of Corpus Christi, Texas He also leaves behind seven grandchildren: Willie Davis, Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas; Antionette (Kiwan) Henderson of Houston, Texas; Andrea (Jeffery) Ledet of Houston, Texas; Lewis (NaKisha) Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas; Alysia (Christopher) Arrue of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Pernell “Pjay” Knox of Corpus Christi; eleven great-grandchildren: Darvin Davis, Keiona Norfleet, Janiah Ledet, Janius Ledet, Kamryan Johnson, Lewis-William Johnson, Landen Johnson, Kylan Williams, Jayda Arrue, Angelo Arrue, and Ava Arrue; one God daughter, Ericka Sample of Norfolk, Virginia; and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will take place on Friday, February 23, 2018, at Memory Gardens from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm, with the wake service beginning at 7:00 pm. The funeral services will take place on Saturday, February 24, 2018, at Memory Gardens Funeral Home at 10:00 am with entombment to follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
