Maria Guadalupe Fernandez

She married the Love of her Life, Juan S. Fernandez on August 17, 1958. They shared 66 years together and are now reunited in their Eternal Home.

Maria entered the work force as a Day Care provider. She worked for several years caring for young children. She worked for the State at the Health Department in Family Planning for many years (26+) making many life-long friends. Maria made a great impression on many clients who would occasionally greet her throughout the city years after she retired.

Her hobbies were antiquing, collecting crystal objects, researching Saints and reading books on religion and autobiographies. Maria loved working on Search a Word puzzles.

There are many adjectives to describe Maria: kind, faithful, loving, intelligent, disciplinarian, and feisty. She was fun to be around but one to be Respected at all times!

The love she had for her children, Mary Ester Martinez, Norma Fernandez, Juan Fernandez Jr. (Zenaida), and Melissa Fernandez was unconditional.

Maria loved her grandchildren with all her heart, cultivating a special bond with each of them; Johnny Fernandez (Leslie), Mark Anthony Martinez (Sarah), JonRyan Torres (Kim), John Gabriel Fernandez, Klarysa Hernandez, Miranda Fernandez, and Jacob Hernandez (Melony).

Her love for her great grandchildren brought her immense joy; Mercedes Fernandez, Brooke Fernandez, Luke Martinez, Lexi Martinez, Luna Hernandez, Janessa Vella, Phoebe Vella, Violet Vella, Abriel Vella, Amiyra Vella and Arelo Almanzar.

Maria is reunited in death with her loving husband, Juan S. Fernandez and numerous family members. She always missed her “ama” Luisa Bosquez and “abuelita” Ernesta Resendez.

Those left to cherish her memories are her loving children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, beloved sister-in-law Maria Elena Fernandez, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A public visitation for Maria will be held Sunday, February 15, 2026 from 5 to 9pm at Memory Gardens Funeral Home 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi Texas. A Holy Rosary will be recited that evening at 7pm. A chapel service will occur Monday, February 16, 2026, at 10:00am at Memory Gardens Funeral Home. A committal and entombment will follow at Memory Gardens Mausoleum. A fellowship luncheon will be at the banquet room at Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers are Johnny Fernandez, Marc Anthony Martinez, JonRyan Torres, Jacob Hernandez, Reynaldo Salinas and Dylan Hernandez.
