Maria Elena Torres

Maria Elena Torres, 79, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024. Born and raised in Corpus Christi to Lorenzo and Martha Espinosa, Maria was a proud graduate of Moody High School. On August 31, 1959, she married the love of her life, Jose G. Torres, with whom she shared a beautiful life for over six decades. Maria worked for many years with CCISD Cafeterias, where her kindness and dedication touched the lives of many. She was also a devoted member of her Christian church, where her faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, was her guiding light. Maria had a zest for life, and her love of dancing, singing, and especially Elvis Presley brought joy to everyone around her. Family gatherings, particularly Bar-B-Ques, were her happiest moments, filled with laughter, love, and togetherness. An adventurous spirit, Maria loved traveling and always looked forward to her next journey. She was preceded in death by her son, Joe "Joey" Torres, grandson Adrian Rios, and granddaughter Arlene Laureles. She is survived by her loving husband Jose G. Torres and their children Delma Chavarria, Sylvia Laureles, Esther Tobias, Ruben Torres, and Lorie Torres. Maria also leaves behind 15 cherished grandchildren and 25 treasured great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Lorie, who worked tirelessly to care for her mother, and to Trio Hospice and nurse Adrian for their compassion and professionalism, which brought comfort and blessings to the family during this time.

A visitation for Maria will be held Monday, October 21, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 12:00 AM at Funeraria Del Angel, 549 Cheyenne St., Corpus Christi, TX 78405. A prayer service will occur Monday, October 21, 2024 at 6:00 PM, 549 Cheyenne St., Corpus Christi, TX 78405. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 1:00 PM, 549 Cheyenne St., Corpus Christi, TX 78405. A committal service will occur Tuesday, October 22, 2024 at 3:00 PM at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415.
