Mona was born on August 1, 1935 to Nunly and Thelma Boroughs in Brownfield, Texas. She married her husband, Raymond Chaffin, on August 24, 1953 in Big Springs. Together, they had two daughters, Brenda and Sherry.
She spent much of her early adulthood at home with her girls and later worked at a sewing factory and helped her husband run a gas station and grocery store in Loop, Texas, where they raised their children. After their girls were grown, they followed the Lord’s calling to South Texas to be house parents at the South Texas Children’s Home. There, they cared for and loved many children, including a family of four siblings that would remain with them and be raised as their own.
Mona was an avid sewist and crocheter. She was a faithful member of her church, Lexington Baptist Church, and found great joy in visiting her children and grandchildren. She was a prayer warrior and beloved by many from all stages of her life.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Thelma and Nunly Boroughs, and her husband Raymond Douglass Chaffin.
She is survived by her three sisters: Melba Camp, Sally Rogers, Beverly (Gary) Holeman; her children: Brenda Orosco, Sherry (Tommy) Stephens, Fred (Gloria) Martinez, Albert Martinez, Pat Martinez (Mike Salinas), and Terri (Micheal) Campbell; Sixteen grandchildren: Monica Orosco, Anthony (Jeffri) Orosco, Victoria Orosco, Daryl Stephens, Gracie (Shaun) Skubal, Clinton Stephens, Samantha (Steven) Rodriguez, Gabriella Martinez, Chase Martinez, Ethan Martinez, Dylan Martinez, Anastasia Elizabeth Martinez (Patrick Gutierrez), Ryan Salinas, Michaela Salinas, Dustin Campbell, and Nathan Campbell; and ten great grand children: Ryan Orosco, Ethan Orosco, Morgan Orosco, Ryder Orosco, Erza Skubal, Oliver Skubal, Jace Gutierrez, Amelia Gutierrez, Zeke Gutierrez, and Mila Salinas.
