
Nancy ChamberlainFlyTXNancy Chamberlain Fly, age 88 of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2016. She was born to Louis Sumpter Chamberlain and Ruth Lamon Chamberlain on October 24,1928, in Burnet, Texas.
Mrs. Fly graduated as Valedictorian of Burnet High School and graduated from the University of Texas at Austin where she was a member of the Orange Jackets. She met her husband of 49 years, DeWitt Fly while both were attending the University.
While raising 4 children, she earned her Master’s Degree and taught at Roy Miller High School and then began teaching at Del Mar College. Mrs. Fly retired from Del Mar College as a full professor. By her estimate, she taught over 6,000 students. There were few places in Corpus Christi that she could go without being recognized by former students who she remembered.
After retirement, Mrs. Fly and her husband traveled to all 50 of the United States and to many foreign countries. Hawaii was their favorite travel spot and they visited there 14 times.
Mrs. Fly is survived by her children Ruth Cude, Earl Fly (Maria), Karen McCallum (Dick), and Murry Fly (Dee Ann). She is also survived by 7 grandchildren Nancy Gary (Jason) Lucy Martinez (Tim), Carla Strasheim (Keith), James Fly, Michael McCallum, and Kristy Knight (Tom Hammond). Surviving her are 7 great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her grandson, John W. Cude.
Funeral Services are scheduled at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 30, 2016 at First Christian Church in Corpus Christi, Texas. Burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016 in Burnet Cemetery in Burnet, Texas.
