Nellie Constance Grant Schlorman Angelle, known to family as “Dimples”, 84, passed away on Saturday, March 25, 2017, surrounded by family at her home in Corpus Christi, Texas. She was born, the last of eight children, in Corpus Christi, on August 11, 1932 to James Alfred “Jack” Grant and Nellie Gollihar Grant. Although Nellie was a beautiful classy lady, she was made of stem stuff which she rightfully inherited from her maternal grandparents, Corpus Christi pioneers, Charles Ashley Gollihar and Martha Jane Raines Gollihar. She also inherited her perseverance from her paternal side as a descendant of Col. William M. Kincheloe, who arrived in Texas on 1824, as one of Austin’s Old Three Hundred (the First Anglo Colony in Texas).
Nellie was a life-long resident of Corpus Christi where she attended Crossley Elementary, Driscoll Jr. High and graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1951, where she played on the tennis team. She them married Leonard Eugene Schlorman and they had one daughter, Susan. In 1962, Nellie married Leed John “Jay” and they were married until Jay died in 1994. She worked in an administrative capacity for Jess Edwards Trucking, B.F. Walker Inc. and Federal Sign Company. After retiring, Nellie became a volunteer with the Works of Mercy at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church where she was a parishioner for over 60 years.
Nellie was an unique and extraordinary person with a wicked sense of humor. She was a loving mother, grandmother, wife and sister who loved her family and friends unconditionally. Nellie loved Ancient Egyptian culture and would have been an archeologist if she got a do over. She enjoyed reading, working puzzles, playing board games, attending Broadway plays and travel. When she was younger, Nellie also loved to sing, dance, play the piano and play tennis. She was an excellent cook whether it was an elaborate dinner or a simple meal and a passionate lover of animals, especially her kitties, Buttons, Jettie, Elizabeth, Max, and Buffer.
Nellie was predeceased in death by her parents; five brothers, Forest Grant, Merald Grant, Gerald Grant, Jack Grant and Lester Grant; her only sister, Jeanne Grant; and son-in-laws, Lamar Hines and Michael Kesler.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan Schlorman Kesler of Corpus Christi; her granddaughter, Brandy Hines of San Antonio; her brother, Donald Anthony Grant (Lillian) of Corpus Christi; a host of nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and even great-great nieces and nephews; and her wonderful caregiver, Steve Hudson.
She in now in God’s arms and will forever live in our hearts.
