On March 27, 2024, Ricardo V. Cruz passed away peacefully in San Antonio, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Antonio Cruz and Concepcion Vargas Cruz; and brothers Tony, Rudy, Bobby, and Ramon.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Alice D. Cruz; children Connie Cruz Jansen (Shawn M. Jansen) and Ricardo D. Cruz; grandchildren Ricardo N. Cruz, Brittney Marie Cruz (John Godina), Nicholas D. Cruz, Antonio M. Cruz; and great-granddaughter Brianna Marie Godina.
Ricardo served his country in the U.S. Army, and was a proud veteran of the Vietnam war. Shortly after discharge from the military, he received an Associates degree in Business at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, and continued his education at Texas A&I University in Kingsville. He married Alice and lived a blessed and fruitful life in his hometown, Corpus Christi, Texas. He owned and operated his own business, Community Meat Market, for over 30 years. He invented Chorizo Vargas and made what was arguably the best smoked sausage in town.
He was an amazing and beloved husband and father, and everything he did was first and foremost for his family. His grandchildren were his heart, which grew even more with the birth of his great-granddaughter. Ricardo's passing leaves a vast hole in the hearts of his family, but the memories of this loving, generous, funny, intelligent, and hard-working man will continue his legacy.
