Rosario Geronimo Hanysz, 93, of Houston, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2026. Born on February 10, 1933, in San Martin Hidalgo, Jalisco, to Maria Chavarin Ochoa, Rosario grew up and attended school in Mexico before embarking on a journey that would lead her to a long and vibrant life in the United States.
In June 1962, Rosario married Waldemar K. Hanysz. They initially settled in Chicago, Illinois, where they began their life together and raised their seven children. In 1980, the family moved to Corpus Christi, Texas, which remained her home for over thirty years. Following a dedicated 24-year career as a Production Associate for the Nabisco Company, Rosario moved to Houston in 2011, where she spent her remaining years surrounded by the love of her growing family.
Rosario’s greatest joy was her role as a matriarch. She was a constant, loving presence in the lives of her children: John A. Hanysz, Sagrario Hanysz-Rodriguez, Waldemar Hanysz Jr., David G. Hanysz, Dalilah M. Orozco, Reynaldo Hanysz, and Adriana D. Hanysz. Her legacy further lives on through her 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews who will cherish her memory.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Waldemar Hanysz; her mother, Maria Chavarin Ochoa; and her brothers, Jose F. Godoy and Jorge Godoy.
Those who knew Rosario will remember her green thumb in the garden, her passion for travel, and her infectious excitement whenever she played the lottery. She was a woman of generous spirit, frequently donating to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and serving as an Associate Member of the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas.
