William Edward (Bill) Hinton, wheeler dealer extraordinaire died peacefully Friday, February 17, 2017 in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born in 1929 at the family farm in Argenta, Texas. Bill was a graduate of Corpus Christi High School, served in the National Guard and worked as a millwright in his early life. However, he soon realized he was more suited to being an entrepreneur. Over the years he bought, sold and traded cars, invested in real estate and frequented auctions where he purchased everything from heavy equipment to truckloads of boat oars and bowling balls. Once he traded an old used car for acreage and royalty interest that returned a handsome profit thirty years later in the Eagle Ford Shale Oil and Gas Field. Bill had a sense of adventure and always made time for fun, taking his children and their school friends on many outings all over Texas and surrounding states- camping at Garner State Park, metal detecting on Padre Island, boating down the Intra-Coastal Waterway, road trips and sing alongs in the “Midnight Special”, a 1948 Greyhound bus he renovated. Bill’s hobbies included chess, Liar’s Poker and helping people at the Computer Club of Corpus Christi. Bill had a soft spot for animals and the underdog. He enjoyed lifelong friends and the family would especially like to thank Garth and Josie Herro for their friendship to the end. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, William Carroll Hinton and Blanche Marie Hinton. He is survived by Vicky Hinton, Brenda (William) Parrish, Sandy (Arnold) Benavides, Gary (Michele) Hinton, Teresa Franklin, five grandchildren and 10 ½ great grandchildren. Bill’s curiosity about the world and his unconventional, independent spirit is the legacy he leaves. Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, February 23, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Cage-Mills Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Friday February 24, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Cage-Mills Funeral Home with interment to follow at Argenta Cemetery in Argenta, Texas.
