

Jim attended Warsaw High School before joining the United States Air Force. Jim attended Victory Center Church in West Lafayette, Ohio for many years.
On May 30, 1978, he married Diana (Cutshall) Helmick. They had two children together, Melissa (Bill) LaRocco of Brook Park, Ohio and Sarah (Jonathon) Wright of Conesville. Jim had two children from a previous marriage, daughter, Linda Hepner of South Carolina and son, David (Mary) Helmick of Coshocton. He had six grandchildren, April Dawson of South Carolina, Nina (George) Gonter of Coshocton, Alexia Stephan (Michael) of Coshocton, Bryan Stephan of West Lafayette, and Abigail and Gage Wright of Conesville. He had nine great-grandchildren, Jamison, Kiley, Landen, Marley, Ryder, Teagan, Carter, Insley and Stevie; mother-in-law, Beverly Workman of Coshocton, sister-in-law, Donna (Carl) Miller of Coshocton, brother-in-law, Ronnie Cutshall of Coshocton; and along with several nieces and nephews.
In 1979, Jim retired from Peabody “Broken Arrow” Coal Company. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle.
Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and friends; traveling to West Virginia, playing softball, working on the farm, tinkering with cars, bikes, watches, knives and lawn mowers. He also enjoyed being outdoors, fishing, mushroom and ginseng hunting, and coon and deer hunting. Jim also enjoyed airplanes and trains.
He is preceded in death by his father, David Helmick, his mother, Ella Lang, step-father, Clearance Lang; brothers, Denzil, Hoy, Charles, Glenn and Don, sisters, Irene and Betty; and a son, Andrew. Father-in-law, Don Cutshall, brother-in-law, Donnie Cutshall and several nephews. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him and if he didn’t know you, he would before he left wherever he was!
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at Given-Dawson-Paisley Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 12:00 pm. Burial will be held at Coshocton County Memory Gardens with military honors being conducted by the Coshocton County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
