

Joyce J. Fry, age 85, of Keene, passed away on Monday, October 3, 2016. She was born on February 12, 1931, in Coshocton County, to the late John and Ada (Fair) Stein. Joyce grew up on a farm near Pearl and was a 1949 graduate of Fresno High School. On February 10, 1951, she married Robert E. Fry before family and friends at Renners Church in Fresno.
Joyce was a longtime member of the Canal Lewisville United Methodist Church and the Keene Happy Neighbors. She enjoyed trying new recipes and staying connected with friends and family via phone conversations and heartfelt letters. A longtime homemaker, Joyce kept an immaculate house and always had cookies fresh from the oven. She and her husband, Robert, enjoyed square dancing, day trips to Amish country and trying new restaurants throughout Ohio. Joyce also loved attending family events including her grandsons’ baseball and football games, holiday gatherings, graduations and birthday parties. She always had high moral standards, was candid in nature and often made unintentionally hilarious comments. In her later years, Joyce enjoyed visiting with family and friends, playing bingo and watching videos of her great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughter, Tamra (David) Cheney of Keene; two grandsons, Kristofer (Stephanie) Cheney of Houston, TX and Cortland (Alexis) Cheney of Burlington, NC; two great-grandchildren, Alexander Cheney and Charlotte Cheney of Houston, TX; and one niece, Karen Cutshall of Fresno.
Along with her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her husband, Robert who passed away in 1995; brother, Paul (Elsie) Stein; and one great-grandson, Peter Cheney.
A private burial for Joyce will be held at a later date.
