Dr. Balbir Singh Brar passed away peacefully the afternoon of Tuesday, May 4, 2021, with the love of his family surrounding him. He lived a full life and was a loving husband, father, grand-father and a father-figure to many. The birth and death of this great man, however, is not nearly as relevant as all the days and nights that he lived to the fullest in-between.
Dr. Balbir Brar was born December 9, 1936 in Hafizwalla in the Punjab province of what is now Pakistan. He was the son of late Sardar Munshi Singh and Sardarni Sant Kaur. He emigrated to the United States in 1962 after receiving a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from Punjab and went on to obtain a Ph.D. in Toxicology/Pathology from Rutgers University. From that point, his passion and acumen for drug development enabled him to become a world-renowned drug developer. As a renowned scientist, his work impacted the lives of many. He worked for several prestigious pharmaceutical companies and was implemental in the approval of several drugs currently on the market. The love he had was unconditional and something everyone cherished from his character. His kindness and generosity will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
He will be missed by many, including his wife of 49 years, Raminder, his children, Amrita, Anjum and Satjit, his grandchildren, Tej, Anika and Hanna and numerous extended family members and friends.
