I didn’t know Danny had passed until I asked some Laguna musicians about him. 

Danny was a gentle soul and a kind  spirit.                .   I wonder why he was taken from us.  

I visited him and was astounded as well as impressed of his guitar collection. 

I remember Danny and his sister from the days at the Marine room when Missiles of October played there.

There's a hole in my life where you once were my friend. I think of you often and dedicated a song to you on which I played your trusty J45. I thanked you on the album I just finished making and it hurts not being able to talk about it with you. I miss our emails about guitars and my wife and I both miss the sound of your mellifluous voice on the telephone. At least there are the precious memories and your music, which lives on. I am glad that you finally found peace and relief but the selfish part of me wishes that you were still around.

Remembering Danny today - can't believe it's been a year now.  I miss him - such a  sweet guy - and I miss his music - so talented.
To his family: know he is thought of today, and hope you are comforted by these warm thoughts of him.
Ruth

I met Danny through my sister Ruth at the Sawdust Festival some years ago and enjoyed watching him perform there several times. He was always warm and easy to talk to. 

I met Danny in 1977. He was the nicest, most sincere person I  knew. He was warm and approachable, with a great sense of humor and talent galore. I will be remembering him as I visit the Sawdust Festival this week. My sincere sympathy to his family.


   Admittedly, I hadn’t seen Danny much in recent years, as he had grown rather reclusive. The last time we spoke was about 8 years ago after I had had a heart attack, and he thoughtfully called to check up on me.      
   Danny and I shared a love of pretty much everything guitar.  He was a big part of the lively music scene  here in Laguna Beach, especially in the late 70’s, through the 80’s,and 90’s. My go to Stratocaster that I still play to this day, was an instrument I bought from Danny over 30 years ago.  
   At some point in the early 80’s Danny was working at a local music store when a guy walked in with a guitar he wanted to sell that Dan instantly recognized as one I had owned and had carelessly left outside my car while packing up one night after a gig…eight months earlier. Danny saw that the case had an airline tag on the handle indicating it had been to Salt Lake City and back. Dan immediately informed the guy that he knew whose guitar it was,  and that the fellow  was not going to leave with it. Spooked, the guy immediately left the premises. Thanks to Dan, I got my guitar back after an 8 month separation…none the worse for its travels.  
RIP my friend. 

I live in Australia and bought one of Dan's personal guitars about 13 years ago (J45). We became friends and he scored a few more guitars for me over the years.  I asked him lots of dumb questions about guitars and he shared his time and knowledge with me, never talking down to me. I sent him the cap in the picture a while back to cheer him up, which it did. We never met but I talked to him on the phone a few times and we emailed regularly. He was a great guy. I will miss him. I am glad to have some of his music and will think of him when playing 'Bordertown'. Or when playing any of the guitars I bought from him. Fly well into the night my friend.

Dan was a great friend.  I met him when I was in a band ‘In Cahoots’ and Danny frequently came in to see us at the Ancient Mariner in Newport Beach and sit in for a few songs.  He was a fine guitarist and singer.  But most of all he was a great guy.  Always quick with a quip and possessed a great sense of humor that kept us all laughing.  The songs he wrote were very nice to listen to.  It’s so sad that he was so beset with health issues and suffered as he did.  He will be sorely missed by those of us who were lucky enough to know him.
