Born in Cebu City, Philippines, on July 17, 1942, to Flaviano & Carmen Quimbo, Gene was the only child of Philippine Navy sailor and a loving homemaker. He had a happy childhood, growing up to eventually pursue medical school on scholarship where he met the love of his life, Araceli. In 1968, he received an opportunity to pursue both his internship and residency at Cook County Hospital in Chicago, IL. He then married his college sweetheart, Araceli, at Church of St. Ignatius Loyola in Manhattan, NY. The newlyweds settled in Chicago and began their family there. In 1979, shortly after the birth of their youngest son, Chris. Gene began his CA medical career at Chapman General Hospital in Orange. This led to Gene being one of the founders of Yorba Park Medical Group as well. He was a proud member of the St. Joseph Heritage Medical System, with his career spanned over 35 years serving the residents of Orange County.
In his spare time, he loved raising orchids, gambling, and traveling. He is survived by his loving children, Dr. Eric Quimbo of Costa Mesa, Christine Quimbo of Costa Mesa, Jessica Quimbo Steen (Robert) of Costa Mesa and Chris Quimbo of Fullerton. He is also survived by his 9-year-old grandson, Carter, and the devoted family pit bull, Lulah.
A funeral mass will be celebrated Thursday, July 15 at 10am at St. John the Baptist Church in Costa Mesa, with a reception immediately following at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park & Mortuary.
We will miss him every day, but we will never forget his love, his quirky sense of humor, and his devotion to our late mother.
