Was just looking through Google and saw where your dad had passed. So many  wonderful times and memories with your family. I so appreciated the opportunity to have been included as part of your family for one and my first Seder meals. By the way, your mom is a fantastic cook!

I'm so sad to see this.  I'm in Rhode island going to California and thought I'd see where this old best friend of my dad's lives...and I found this.  This past may I sat in the front pew of my father's funeral, listening to a eulogy being read by one of my father's oldest and dearest friends.   It was written by another of the group of 3 friends...Harold Silverman.   My dad was Alan Perry.  He and my mom loved Harold very much.  I do too...every time I read the tribute he wrote. 
May he rest in peace. 

To the Silverman Family,
I was hoping to have had an opportunity to speak on behalf of the Los Angeles-Pasadena Base at Wednesday’s service.  Had  I not been rushed that  morning , to leave early enough to make the 10:00 am start,  I might have seen Mark’s email addressing that very issue.  I’m 90 miles away, and in an effort to get through the traffic going south, I left before  looking at any emails or messages.
I spoke prior with the Rabbi, as to whether  I might speak, and he indicated the plans had already been laid.  He did say however, I could have an opportunity to address mourners at the reception.   That opportunity never really presenteed itself, though I was able to present a certificate for Hal’s yeomans work, while editor of our newsletter.  
What I wanted to say before all in attendance at the service is this.  Hal was a very integral part of both the Los Angeles-Pasadena Base of Subvets, serving on the board in many capacities, as well as the same for the Subvets of WWII.  He was always there to fill in wherever and whenever needed.  He was the consumate volunteer.  He headed nominating committees, planned our holiday and installion luncheons, and took on the resposibilty for T-Shirt sales.  A base could never ask for a better Shipmate. 
The fraternity of Submariners is more than simply a group of associated individuals.  We are more as a family!  A brotherhood like no other.  The bonds we share are difficult to convey to non-Submariners, but they do exist, and to a significant degree.  That being said, we not only lost a great Shipmate, we have lost a Brother.  All “Brothers of the “Phin”  mourn Hal’s passing.
So please know that losing our Brother brings great sadness, and we share in  the loss you have sustained,  and  share in the grief that all will endure.  Know how much Hal’s contribution to our base has made it what it is today, and that his absence we be deeply felt in the days to follow.

I remember Hal with fondness from our Astec/Emerson days.  He and I were good sparring partners but his sense of humor always tickled me.  He taught me a good deal of what I knew about power supplies (and I literally knew nothing).  Thank you for posting the pictures.  Sending condolences to your family.

I worked with Hal back in the 1990s.  He was always a delight and full of joy (and a little mischief).  I am sad to hear he has passed on.  Let us keep his delight circulating in the world in memory.  Blessing were given to all who knew him.  Thank you Hal.
