A Celebration of life for Jesse L. Gonzalez will be held Saturday June 11, 2022 at Harbor Lawn-Mt. Olive Memorial Park, 1625 Gisler Avenue, Costa Mesa, CA 92626 beginning 1PM with a reception of refreshments, light snacks, and dessert to follow. The family invites you to participate to wear a shade of red in the remembrance of Jesse L. Gonzalez.
Dr. Jesse Gonzalez, son, brother, husband and loving father, of 119 Sunflower Street, Georgetown, Texas, passed away on April 10, 2022.
Jesse is preceded in death by 4 brothers, Tony Gonzalez, Paul Gonzalez, Gilbert Gonzalez, and Ralph Gonzalez; 2 sisters, Carmen Hernandez and Ruth Ales; and his granddaughter, Kailey J. Ford.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Patsy Gonzales; his two daughters, Melissa Ford (Eric) of Arvada, Colorado, and Nikki Bracken (Dave) of Scottsdale, Arizona; his Godchild, Cynthia Cannon Wilson of Houston, Texas; and his sisters, Sally Fuentes of Walnut, CA, and Ophelia Bryan of Hobbs, New Mexico.
Jesse was born Jesus Gonzalez on Stahmann Farms in San Miguel, New Mexico on March 29, 1937 to his parents Pablo Gonzalez and Soledad Luna Gonzalez. He attended grade school in San Miguel, NM. In the 8th grade, he moved to Hobbs, New Mexico where he graduated from high school.
Jesse attended New Mexico State University where he received his BS in pre-law in 1964. In 1965, he attended Eastern New Mexico University where he received a Teaching Credential in education and history. In 1969, he did graduate work in advanced Spanish Studies in Burgos, Spain. In 1971, he received a PPS Credential in Guidance and Counseling through Pepperdine University, Los Angeles, CA.
In 1976, he earned a Masters Degree in School Administration from California State University, Fullerton, CA. In 2000, he earned a PhD in Education Management and Development from New Mexico State University.
Jesse started his career in education in 1966 as a Spanish, U.S. History, and Social Studies teacher. He went on to become a Counselor, Dean of Students, Coach, Assistant Principal, Principal, and Personnel Administrator at various school districts. He was School Superintendent at the Bernalillo Public Schools, Las Cruces Public Schools, and Compton Unified School District where he retired.
