Lawrence David Raphael, M.D., died on March 23, 2024 in Newport Beach, California. He was 78 years old.

Dr. Raphael was born January 7, 1946 in Montreal, Canada. There he attended McGill University, earning his medical degree and then training in internal medicine at the Jewish General Hospital. He pursued his fellowship training in cardiology at the University of Alabama in Birmingham before returning home to Montreal, but soon settling with his family in Redlands, California. He practiced cardiology in San Bernardino County throughout a career spanning over 40 years, serving as Chief of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Arrowhead Regional Medical Center, among many other roles. After his retirement, he settled in Newport Beach, California.

Larry was the beloved husband of Marilyn Raphael, his wife of 52 years. He was the adored father of Robert Raphael and Renee Katzenberg, and father-in-law of Debbie Raphael and Eric Katzenberg. He was deeply loved by his grandchildren, Seth and Joshua Raphael and Madeline and Colin Katzenberg. He will be missed by his brother and sister-in-law Bruce and Judy Raphael, by his sister and brother-in-law Sandy and Bob Lubarsky, and by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dr. Raphael will be remembered for his love and dedication to family, his keen intelligence, his voracious reading, his charismatic storytelling, his compassion, and for the lives he saved over his long career as a cardiologist.
