
Norma Churchill Weber, 82, of Fountain Valley, gracefully entered the Church Triumphant early last Friday morning, April 29, 2016 following her courageous battle with cancer while a patient at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital in Fountain Valley.
Norma was born September 5, 1933 in Ford City, Pennsylvania to Eldred and Clara Barnes Churchill who were originally from Newfoundland. She was employed by the Eljer Company while in Ford City where she met her husband, Bill, who preceded her in death. After their courtship and marriage, Bill and Norma moved to Fountain Valley to be close to the bases where he was formerly stationed as an officer in the U.S. Air Force in Santa Ana and San Diego. Norma enjoyed working with her hands and was very talented in cake decorating and crafts. She also played the piano and organ for her local church. Norma fought the cancer in her body and possessed the good fight of faith until her death.
A Service celebrating the Resurrection for Norma’s family and friends will be held Wednesday, May 4 at 1:00 p.m. at Harbor Lawn Funeral Home and Mortuary, 1625 Gistler Avenue in Costa Mesa. The Reverend Marvin Combs will be the officiating pastor. The Interment will be at Riverside National Cemetery alongside her husband at a later date.
Norma’s siblings who preceding her in death include Arthur Churchill of Ohio, Eldred Churchill, and Ray Churchill, all of Ford City, Pennsylvania. Surviving family members are her sister, Dorothy Russell of Apollo, Pennsylvania and her brother, Harold Churchill of Ford City, Pennsylvania; her children, Susan Weber and Carla Weber of the home, Karen Gilbert and husband, Rev. Dr. J. G. Gilbert of Newton, NC, grandchildren Justin Thomas of San Bernardino, Krystal Childers of Charlotte NC, Jessica Maki of Huntersville, NC and great-grandson, Sybastian Childers of Charlotte NC.
The family also acknowledges and is thankful for the doctors and nurses at Orange Coast Memorial Hospital for their loving care of Norma and the spiritual care given to her by Pastor Combs during her last days. The family requests that in lieu of flowers that gifts be made in Norma’s memory to The Alzheimer’s Association of Orange County, 2515 McCabe Way, Suite 200, Irvine, California, 92614 and/or the North American Lutheran Church, 3500 Mill Run Drive, Hilliard Ohio, 43026-7770.
