Robert (“Bob”) Lee Worthing Sr., age 66, passed away on October 5, 2013 after a seven month battle with cancer.
Bob was born on July 14, 1947 in Columbus Ohio, to Albert and Marilyn Worthing. Bob and his two younger brothers, Mike and Craig, were raised in Kirkersville, a small village in Ohio. Bob graduated from Watkins High School in Pataskala, Ohio and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. He served for three years as an aircraft mechanic and was honorably discharged. Bob married Kathy on March 29, 1969 and they celebrated their 44th Wedding Anniversary this year. Bob always was Kathy’s “Get er done guy”.
Bob took numerous classes and trade school courses at Santa Ana Community College. He worked in construction, aircraft mechanics, and security before choosing apartment maintenance as his career choice. The last twenty years were spent working for Frontier Investment of Newport Beach, CA. Bob had many hobbies including camping, all types of fishing, tinkering and collecting. When his children were younger, Bob was actively involved with their activities, including: coaching youth baseball, YMCA Indian Guides (now called Adventure Guides) as a “Medicine Man”, Boy Scouts of America and even assisted regularly during Kathy’s leadership involvement with Girl Scouts of America. During his children’s junior high, high school and college sports activities, Bob was always in the stands cheering louder and smiling broader than anyone. In the last few years, Bob joined his “second family”, the 2nd Kentucky Calvary Regiment, which is a civil war reenactment club that he dearly loved. He considered all the fifty plus members his brothers; the group gave him so much pride and enjoyment over the last three years.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Kathy, as well as his five children and five grandchildren: Daughter Melissa; Son Rob and Daughter-in-Law Sara and their two daughters, Madelyn and Samantha; Daughter Heather and Son-in-Law William and their son Jonathan and daughter Arianna; Son Greg and Daughter-in-Law Alisha; Daughter Theresa and Son-in-Law Justin and their daughter Elsie. He leaves behind his younger brother Mike, and nephew Christopher and nieces Kimberly and Michelle; Sister and Brother in laws Lori, Don and Nephew Steve; Brother and Sister-in-law Ted, Cathy and Nephew Brian.
A memorial service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at 2:00 PM at Harbor Lawn – Mt. Olive Memorial Park. Military Funeral Honors will be granted along with a three shot volley by representatives from the 2nd Kentucky Calvary Regiment.
