

Brian was born on February 16th, 1949 in London, Ontario to his parents both predeceased Jack and Joan Bathurst.
He graduated from high school in 1967 and then went onto enroll in the Photojournalism program at Fanshaw College in London. He met Vicki in 1968 whom became his first wife in 1971 and they had many wonderful journeys across Canada and back before settling on Vancouver Island. They were introduced to Cumberland through friends Brian had made while logging in Thompson sound. They both immediately fell in love with the area and bought their first home in 1974. There they developed many friendships with whom they have kept throughout the years. Brian eventually landed a job with the local newspaper as a photographer and journalist. The couple welcomed their first child Leif in 1976 and second Lucas in 1978. They divorced in 1985 after 14 years of marriage.
Also an Avid skier while growing up in the winters of Ontario with his family. Brian began working on the development and early stages of Mount Washington in 1979 and was part of the inaugural 79-80 ski season. He would become a full time ski instructor and was part of the kids program for several years and eventually getting his two boys into skiing which they are both very active to this day .
In the summer months he began working in Construction and eventually transition into full-time carpentry and landscaping jobs once he left the mountain in 1987. During this time he met his second wife Shannon whom they welcomed his third Son William in 1988. Unfortunately this was not a long marriage but they had some good times as a family.
Brian would go onto work briefly in Vancouver for a few years before making his way back the valley and ultimately Cumberland where he would spend the rest of his days.
Brian loved to read and keep up to date with current events. An avid gardener as well , he enjoyed sharing his knowledge and bounties with friends and family. Brian was extremely social and would frequent the local drinking establishments quite often to have many conversations with anyone about almost anything. He could tell a great story as well and keep your attention!
Brian touched many people through his personality and wonderful sense of humor. He made many friends over the years will be missed dearly. He can be remembered as a true Cumberland local.
Brian is Survived by his Sons Leif, Lucas, and William.
His granddaughters Talia, Autumn, Kadie, and Rya.
His Brothers John (Pat), Peter (Laurie), his Sister Jo-an (Carroll).
He also had many cousins and family from his foster siblings that his mother raised with them.
He had many nieces and nephews as well.
