Mom was born on the Denman Island ferry and later a ferry was named after her, the Catherine Graham. She spent her childhood on Denman and Hornby Islands before moving to Union Bay where she met her husband Gerry.
She worked at The Creamery in Courtenay early on and later at the Buckley Bay Beachcomber. The most fulfilling job she had was being a supportive and caring mother and wife.
Mom loved to help people. She was a lifetime volunteer at the Union Bay Community Hall and Church. She was a Pythian Sister, a member of the Ellen McKay Circle and a longtime member/baker of the Union Bay Tour de Rock support group.
She was predeceased in June 2025 by her husband Gerry. They were together 71 years. She is survived by her children: Brenda (Larry) and Calvin (Annette), her grandchildren: Meghan (Blake), Ryan (Teresa), Andrew and Sophie (Charlie) her great-granddaughters Billie and Rowan.
Mom (lovingly known as Nan) was Headquarters for our family, always knowing what everyone was doing and recording all our events in years’ worth of journals. Stopping by the house meant stopping for a meal because you never got out the door without food. Mom loved to bake and her tasty apple pies will be missed.
We would like to thank her neighbours Terri and Dave, Janice and Rick and Randy for their help and support as well as the many community health workers who allowed her to stay in her home (especially Erin, Steve, Cheryl and Windsor).
As per her wishes there will be no funeral service or gathering. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Catherine’s name can be made to the Union Bay Church.
