

Born in Cumberland on January 31st, 1938, the oldest of two and only Son of Secondo and Mary Tobacco, Derrick spent his entire childhood in Cumberland. Growing up surrounded by family, he enjoyed school, basketball, playing the accordion and spending time out the lake.
Derrick dedicated his life to serving his community in the Comox Valley. Throughout his long and meaningful career, Derrick worked as a paramedic, and volunteered as a firefighter and auxiliary member of the RCMP, roles in which he demonstrated courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
In his leisure time, Derrick found great joy in golfing, working on his model train collection, and watching baseball—a devoted fan of the New York Yankees. Above all, he cherished spending time with his family and friends, whose love and companionship enriched his life.
Derrick is survived by his children, Keri and Brad, grandchildren Riley, Reese and Ashlynn, companion of many years Vivian Stephenson, his beloved cousins,
and many friends.
Derrick will be buried on November 10th at 12pm in the Cumberland Cemetery.
Celebration of life will follow at 1pm at the Cumberland Legion.
