To my dear Mother in law. Mom one of the things that came very easy for me to do was to call you Mom, it just seemed so natural.
 There are so many things to say thanks for over the years of knowing you so I'll just highlight a few that were so very special. For the many great Sunday suppers you had us over. For the way we enjoyed doing crosswords together (that was fun  times). For the way you kept yourself neat as a pin I was proud to be seen in your company. For the way you kept yourself neutral through some trying times. For the way you cared pets and plants. For the love you showed me through the years.
 I know that in these days of e-mails and electronics that you will get this letter as soon as I press the ENTER key.
 Mom and if I was able to bring a little smile to your face or an ounce of comfort to you in your final days it was my honor and privilege to do so.

I was introduced to Mrs. Chester by daughter Heather who is about the same age as me.  We lived on the same street in Victoria.  I was always welcomed in her home and I remember my mother often visting for a chat.  I'm sure she will be missed.

We had the privilage of visting our Auntie Dot this year when staying with our brother Terence and his wife Barb.  Auntie Dot was such a lovely warm and welcoming lady and we will cherish the memory of sitting in her back yard eating home made cakes, drinking English tea and listening to her many memories of our family. We would all like to say how sorry we are to hear of (Auntie) Dot's passing.  We know she is not alone, but is reunited with the rest of the ones she loves.  We feel the sorrow that is with you, her immediate family, and send you our condolences and deepest sympathy. She will be missed.

I remember Dorothy (Dot) as affectionately known, very good cook, mother and her house was always spotless. She once showed me her guest room where she wanted me to stay and I always remember that as I wanted to make my guest room look like that

She was the kindest, most loving and caring person I have ever been lucky enough to know and love. She was so supportive and forgiving of her family and always put others first. She was and is a great role model.

Unfortunately for me, I had only know Dorothy for the last few years.  But I had come to love and respect her as a beautiful person, inside and out.   She was a Lady who took impeccable care of herself.  This tribute would not be complete if I didn't mention how absolutely lovely her hands and fingernails were. My grandmother was a sweet, kind, caring lady. I remember flying out to Victoria as a child and having her take me to feed the ducks and letting me sneak licorice baby candies before dinner. She will be missed.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire family at this difficult time.  

Ron and I had the privilege of meeting Heather's parents many years ago, and were treated to their kindness and  hospitality on more than one occasion.  Heather's mom (and dad!) made us feel welcomed and relaxed.  What a gracious example of hospitality...beautiful qualities that are reflected in their good daughter, Heather - our dear friend.  

Heather - thank you for sharing your heart with us throughout this difficult time -- although our hearts hurt for you and and what you and your family are enduring - thank you so much for also sharing your great faith and from where you are drawing your comfort - the Bible's hope of a resurrection.

Dorothy Chester and her husband George were very special friends to myself and my late husband Tony over many years particularly in Prince Albert, when we were a slight bit younger than they were,they on occasion would baby sit our oldest son.After a long absence when they moved to Victoria and we did not travel as much we were apart but re established our relationship beginning in 2003 when we would come to Victoria for a visit in March.It was lovely to see them again.I honor you Dot and pray that you are in the Kingdom with your Lord and saviour,your beloved husband and other family members,and Tony too!Bon Voyage until we meet again

I remember Mrs. Chester as a classy lady and a gracious and generous hostess.

I hadn't seen Aunt Dorothy since I was a teenager....as we lived a distance apart.  It was with great excitement that I got to see her again at my mother's second wedding (my father had passed away a number of years before).  When I saw her again, I couldn't believe that she hadn't changed a bit!  In reality there were a few more wrinkles and signs of age, but she remained as elegant as ever.  I guess that's what I really remembered about Aunt Dorothy most....her elegance.  And from the picture I see here, that didn't change throughout her life.  You will be greatly missed Aunt D!!  It has been a sad year for our family with a number of the Kirkness clan passing....but I believe they are having one great big reunion!!  With love, Lynn Pawlowski (niece).

Barb & I, too, were with Aunty Dot periodically in her final days. She was indeed a great lady who left us with the dignity and composure we had come to expect in the years we had known her. She came back into my life after about a 40 year absence, Aunty Dot & Uncle Les were the first to welcome me, my Dad and brother Robin to Canada when we came over in 1961, they opened their house to these three migrants and took us in!  I never forgot the kindness they showed. A wonderful woman, a great life lived, we shall miss her.
