The son of Reginald Percy Robert Mann and Gladys Marion Cox, a devoted and loving father, Doug was born on May 18, 1936 in Victoria, BC. There he met the love of his life, Leslie Marie Du Plain, who was also born and raised in Victoria. They were married on March 7, 1958. They began life in Comox, where Doug was stationed as a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force. As a military family, they moved frequently, to Summerside, PEI, back to Comox, then to Winnipeg, before retiring in his beloved Comox.
Among Doug’s accomplishments in a distinguished military career were Canadian peacekeeping missions in Cyprus and the Sinai Peninsula. Doug was an extremely talented artist and two of his paintings received 1st prize in the Red River Exhibition in Manitoba. He loved to fish, taking family or friends in his boat off the shores of the Comox Valley. He shared his passion for golf with his wife Leslie, his sons, three generations of grandchildren and his friends. He was a key member of the volunteer team that started the construction of Glacier Greens. With a zest for life and enjoying all the Comox Valley had to offer, he loved to spend time with his wife, his friends, his sons and daughter and their spouses, and his many grandchildren and great, and great great grandchildren. Doug also loved animals and they gravitated toward his gentle nature. In his later years he fondly reminisced about his horse, George.
The family would like to thank the care team at Comox Valley Seniors Home, your empathy, compassion and genuine love for dad was appreciated more than you could ever know.
He is with his beloved Leslie now. We will all miss him dearly.
