He is survived by his wife Brenda (nee Morrison) Rest, daughter Kelly Rest, son Kevin (Carrie) Rest, step-daughter Celina (Joe) Crosby, step-son Willy (Kirsten) Pimlott, 11 adored grandchildren, older brother Arthur (Elsie) Rest, younger brother George (Annette) Rest, and mother of his children Jeanette (Marshall) Garriott.
Jim was born in Calgary, AB to Arthur and Mary Rest and grew up near Millarville, AB. He joined the Royal Canadian Armed Forces in 1963, mostly because he loved planes. The decision turned into a wonderful career that spanned 30 years. He spent most of his military career in C.F.B. Cold Lake and took his last posting to C.F.B Comox, where he retired and lived out the rest of his very full years with Brenda.
Jim had a lifelong love of hockey and played his entire life, most recently with the Comox Valley Old Timers. He leaves behind many dear friends in the hockey community.
At Jim’s request, no formal celebration of life will be scheduled but his family welcomes any and all stories. Heartfelt thanks to all who have already reached out to his family. Poppa Jim will be missed every day. To quote many of his friends, “Jim was truly one of the good guys”.
