

John was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. After returning from the war, John married his wife Margaret in 1948. They lived most of their life in Toronto where they raised their two daughters, Pat and Ginny.
John joined the Metropolitan Toronto Police Department where he served for 25 years and in 1972 he went on to become Chief of Police in Fergus Ontario. Upon retirement, five years later, John and Margaret did extensive traveling, including multiple cruises and wintering in Florida for 40 years. In 2014 they moved to Comox, BC to be close to their daughters. His wife Margaret passed away in 2015 shortly after celebrating their 65th wedding anniversary.
John was a member of King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge in Toronto for 65 years as well as belonging to Hiram’s Lodge in Courtenay. John was also a member of Shriners and Rotary for many years. He also enjoyed playing bridge and golfing.
John is survived by his two daughters, Virginia Alliston, Patricia Schultz (Boyd) and grandson Paul Bernard (Shawnna). He is predeceased by his mother, Sarah Alliston and his sister, Kathleen Cull (James).
A service will be held Friday March 31 at 1pm at St. John the Divine Church, 579 - 5th Street in Courtenay, BC. Reception to follow.
