affectionately known by many families and friends as Lin or Linnie. He passed away
peacefully on May 29, 2021, at the age of 84 from cancer and was lovingly cared for by
his wife Maryanna during his illness and the medical staff at Comox Valley Hospital, in
his final days.
He is survived by his wife, Maryanna Andrews, his children Elaine Seymour and Doug
Andrews, his sister Helen Young, his brother Bert Andrews along with many nieces,
nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.
Lindsay started training as a carpenter at the age of 14 and went on to have a full
career building both residential and commercial properties in both Scotland and
Canada. He was a talented builder and loved the art of creating something with his own
hands. He then went on to spend many years at Canada Mortgage and Housing as a
Building Inspector where he was involved in assisting Indigenous and low-income
families with repairs to their homes and community buildings. He was very proud of this
work and formed meaningful relationships with many that he was fortunate enough to
help, as well as his many work colleagues.
He spent his youth growing up in Dunfermline, Scotland, but moved to Vancouver
Canada in 1969 where he laid the foundation for his wife and 2 children to come join
him and start a new life. He spent many years in Vancouver with his family, but later
divorced and moved around the Lower Mainland before settling down once again with
his wife Maryanna, whom he met while working at CMHC. They spent many wonderful
years in Vancouver, Burnaby, Langley and finally Courtenay on Vancouver Island. Here
he made special friends with his neighbours. Now there was the Englishman, the
Irishman, and Lindsay the Scotsman. They shared many laughs in the backyards.
They were also fortunate to have spent five magnificent winters golfing in Mesa Arizona,
where they also owned a home and made many wonderful friends.
He had a true passion for his hobbies and dedicated a lot of time to golfing and fishing.
He was able to golf many courses over the years in Scotland, Canada, and the United
States; although, his most memorable round of golf may have been at the famous St.
Andrews course in Scotland. His love of golf was definitely matched by his love of
fishing. He spent many adventures fly fishing rivers and streams, and at one time, used
to tie his own flies. He had many memorable fishing trips with friends and family, but his
best friend Chris Horsley would often accompany him, and they shared many laughs not
only on the boat, but just getting in and out of the water. They had many stories from
their Dean River trip. Lindsay loved to relive his most treasured days doing what he
loved and would enthusiastically tell stories with anyone who would listen.
No matter where Lindsay was, he enjoyed being the life of the party and always had a
story to tell. He was kind and funny and enjoyed making people smile with his youthful
enthusiasm and mischievous nature. He was well known for his whistling, and you
always knew he was coming when you heard the happy sound. He also loved to sing a
song and enjoyed sharing his voice at a party or just to make his wife smile.
Lindsay is no longer with us, but we can never forget the loving and memorable
moments we shared. The family ask that in lieu of flowers, a donation be made to the
Cancer Society in Lindsay’s name.
