BC.
Marjorie was predeceased by her husband, Bill/Dad/Poppie in 2014. She continued to live
independently until 3 weeks prior to her passing.
Her strong spirit and will to keep on going was admired by all including her family, friends,
neighbours and caregivers.
During World War Two, Marjorie was recruited and trained at GC&CS to work as a decoder at
Bletchley Park in England. It is the impact and legacy of this essential work that ended the war.
In 1945 she married a Canadian soldier (Bill) and moved to Canada in 1948. Marjorie was
mother to Maureen(Bruce), Tania(Willie) and Shaun(Pamela), grandmother to Adam(Kristina),
Manus(Carolyn), Dayrdrai(Sean), Simon(Maddie) and Morgan(Aria) and great grandmother to
Bronwen, Aoiffe, Oliver, Storm, Sydney, Kira, Nora and Elowen. She was “Nannie” to everyone.
Family was the centre of Marjorie's life. She always had a pair of knitting needles in her hand
and managed to knit about 100 pairs of socks every year to be given not only to family but all
those she came in contact with. Marjorie also loved her flower garden which was maintained
every year and in turn brought many hours of bird watching -another favourite past time. All of
this kept Marjorie's zest for life at an all time high.
Marjorie spent all except the last 19 years of her life in Welland, Ontario. Marjorie and Bill came
to Vancouver Island in 2005 and had many wonderful years in Courtenay.
Marjorie is survived by her brother, Maurice in England, and several nieces and nephews.
Marjorie/Mum/Nannie will be dearly missed by her entire family. She never lost her sense of
humour. She continued to make us laugh. She was an exceptional woman.
