Mary Elizabeth McKay

Born in Antigonish, NS on May 28, 1940, Betty was the 3rd oldest of her 5 siblings. After graduating she went to London, ON to pursue a career in nursing.

Betty was married for 25 years and was a devoted mother and wife, family always came first. She called North Bay, ON home for 20 plus years and after retiring she moved to Guelph to be closer to her sisters Merle and Marie.

Betty was a proud and loving mother to her sons Greg of British Columbia and Brian (Naome) of Fort McMurray, Alberta. She loved visiting with Greg on his boat in Victoria and finally making the move to live with Brian and Naome at their home on Vancouver Island.

Mom was a fashionista who had great style, always on top of the latest trends and had a flair for design. She enjoyed wintering in Cabarete, DR with family and friends, and travelled to Costa Rica, Portugal and Ireland. While she cherished her opportunities to see other parts of the world she loved returning home to her roots in Nova Scotia; this is where she came home to her beloved family, to many happy celebrations, where joyful memories were made.

Betty was well-loved wherever she settled, she had a great network of friends, people gravitated to her; she was a best friend and confidant to many who knew her, and she was the strong one who got us through difficult times like this.

Mom spent her life devoted to helping others and bringing comfort to people through her nursing career. Her laugh was contagious, her wit sharp, and her smile always drew people in. She had an unwavering love of life and reminded us to always see the good and be grateful for what we had been blessed with.

Mom will always be remembered for her kindness, humour, warmth and compassion for others. She was a wonderful lady and her life was a testament to her belief that time is precious and should be enjoyed.

Betty is survived by brothers Robert (Annabel), Cyril (Doreen), Ronnie (Eleanor) and her sisters Merle Cuthbert and Marie Smith. She will be missed dearly by her many nieces, nephews and grand nieces and nephews.
