After a courageous battle with cancer, Mike passed away peacefully with his family at his side.
Mike was a long time employee of Terasen Gas, where he made many life long friends. He was always willing to lend a hand and loved to play darts. He was a member of the Comox Valley men’s darts and mixed pub dart leagues for 18 years. He also loved his sports and Keno, which he was very lucky at. Mike loved to play fastball and was a dominant All Star pitcher for many years in Ontario and Fort St. John, BC. He also played hockey for years as an All Star defenseman for the Fort St. John Flyers. He loved to fix Classic cars and was well known in the neighborhood for his hand built bird houses on his picket fence.
Mike will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Mike is predeceased by his parents, Harry and Margaret Lavender and the love of his life, Phyllis Mayenburg.
Mike is survived by his sister, Patricia Lavender of Newmarket, On. and his extended family: Dwayne Mayenburg (Kim) of Vancouver, Jeff Mayenburg (Pauline) of Powell River, Brian Mayenburg (Christina) of Comox, Greg Mayenburg (Dawn) of Powell River and also Granny Thelma Lovelette of Powell River and their families.
The family would like to thank Dr. K. Emmott and also the Comox Valley Community Hospice Society, the support workers and nurses from VIHA and the Comox Valley Red Cross Society. A Special thanks to Bruce Ehrman, Paul vanNostrand, Ted Meszaros and Derrick and Anne Greig for all their support and help.
A Memorial Service will be held at Piercy’s ~ Mt. Washington Funeral Home on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at 11:00 am. There will also be services held in Fort St. John, BC and Vandorf, Ontario in 2011.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mike’s name to the Comox Valley Red Cross Society.
