Nathan was born in Etobicoke, Ontario and passed away suddenly at his farmyard home in Courtenay BC, surrounded by the energy of the animals he loved. Nathan was a deeply loved son, grandson, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend.
Known to many as "Nath" or "Nate", he lived a full life in his nearly 40 years. Nathan had a generous heart and a deep compassion for others. He touched the lives of many through small acts of kindness, thoughtful gestures, his quirky wit, good humour, and easy laugh.
Nathan had a special way of standing up for the underdog. He cared deeply for people and animals alike, especially those who were hurting or needed someone in their corner. His life was filled with helping others and sharing his love with the many furred and feathered companions that surrounded him.
Throughout his life, Nathan pursued his passions with determination and excellence. As a teenager, he was actively involved in the Air Cadet program, where he earned highest honours at Air Cadet Summer Band Camp. He played the sousaphone in the Air Cadet Marching Band, which went on to win the provincial competition three years in a row.
Nathan also loved athletics and the camaraderie of team sports. He played both football and rugby, proudly competing in rugby at the 2002 BC Summer Games in Nanaimo.
Nathan's diverse career paths led him on many adventures. He was especially proud of becoming a Journeyman Lineman, a trade that allowed him to travel across Western Canada and meet many people along the way. Nathan had a gift for connecting with others and left a lasting impression on those he met.
Life took an unexpected turn when an injury forced Nathan to change direction. True to his resilient nature, he embraced a new path and in 2024 graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Nathan's generous spirit, kindness, and love for both people and animals will be remembered by everyone who knew him. "A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." Maya Angelou.
A celebration o f Nathan's life will be held on March 14, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Crown Isle Golf Course Ballroom in Courtenay, BC.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests that Nathan be honoured by donations to CATS, Cat Advocates Teaching & Saving Society (https://thecatadvocates.com/donating) Where Nathan volunteered many happy hours. Or to: Zanders Mini Animal Farm Society (zandersminis.com) Where Nathan found mentorship and friendship.
