

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of “The Greek” on February 11, 2026 at home at the age of 97.
Born in Nanaimo in 1928, moved to Cumberland with his parents Alex and Florence (Blank), his three siblings George, Jim, and Kathleen. His father got transferred from Nanaimo to Cumberland with Dunsmuir to work as a track layer in #5 mine. Bob attended Cumberland Public School from 1935-1943. He left school to start his logging career.
Bob was well known in the logging industry as the best grapple operator. Started at an early age working for B.C. Forest Products, Elk River Division, and worked for various logging companies including Van West Logging, Royston, T & D. Carter for over 25 years, Chemainus and ended his career at age 65 working for Coulson Logging, Port Alberni, helicipter logging.
Bob was a true outdoors man. Fishing, hunting and gardening were his main interests.
Best known for his steelhead fishing, you would find him every weekend fishing his favourite spots whether on the river or on the ocean.
He was a proud member of the Cumberland Fire Department from 1955-1960. He loved competing in their competitions on May Day.
He is survived by his wife Joan, son Michael and the love of his life his granddaughter Ryann. His sister-in-law Debbie (Doug) Etherington and family; numerous nieces and their families and extended family.
He was predeceased by his parents Alexander and his stepmother Pauline Letsos; Florence and step-father Alfred Thomas, his brothers George, Jim and his sister Kathleen. Also his step brothers Butch Thomas, his wife Mary and Alan Thomas.
We would like to thank the 3rd floor staff at North Island Hospital; Home Support Workers, Staff at Raven House at the Views for their excellent care; Dr. Mark Woldnik and Dr. Ingrey for the care and compassion and especially Home Support Staff for having everything in place to bring Bob home.
No service will be held as per his request.
